The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) Training provided by DHHSD will take place from January 13 to 18, 2014 in St. Paul. This 40 hour training is a culturally affirmative curriculum customized to fit D/HH individuals’ needs, language, and learning styles. This curriculum also offers relevant deaf-related materials including recovery stories about deaf individuals. Certification will be issued to participants who have completed the training and passed an exam.
Peer Support Specialist Services are delivered by trained individuals who have personally experienced a mental illness or a psychiatric diagnosis. These trained individuals are responsible to provide peer counseling/support and advocacy services to peers based on their personal and direct experiences as consumers of mental health services. The CPSS will also share his/her personal recovery stories on a regular basis with peers who are currently struggling with a mental illness.
Peer support is all about assisting peers in regaining control and balance of their lives. It will also empower peers on their recovery journey by connecting them with others who have lived the experience of mental health challenges.
For more information, please go to DHHSD announcement page. Deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind individuals can apply for this training by completing an application available on DHHSD website.
DEAF WOMEN FELLOWSHIP OF MINNESOTA
Theme: God’s Beauty In You
Verses: God wants to give to people, and one of the things He gives is beauty. Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 NLT
