What is the EIPA? The EIPA is a process that is designed to evaluate
the skills of educational interpreters. It allows evaluation of skills at different grade and age levels, and accommodates the various
modifications of sign systems and ASL used in classrooms across the
country.
Dr. Brenda Schick is an Associate Professor of Speech, Hearing and
Language Sciences at the University of Colorado, Denver and is
co-creator of the EIPA. She also studies the development of ASL and the
relationship between language and cognitive development in deaf
children
and creates multimedia presentations to facilitate sign language
acquisition learning. As a volunteer, she serves on the board of the
Colorado Magnet School for the Deaf, a bilingual school.
