As you already know about our new Deaf Mentor program, we need more mentors
to work with in this field especially from NORTH and EAST. More and more
inquiries come to our office.... it is good sign that they are very
interested in our program. It will not work without the trained mentors.
We have trouble finding deaf adults with ASL skills to recruit. They "hid"
living somewhere out there. Maybe you can help us find them. If you feel
that they could be good mentors to work with families including deaf
child/children who want to enhance their communication in sign language,
please let me know (have them contact me right away, too). I will be happy
to invite them to this
opportunity to work with wonderful families, as well as, earning some extra
money for something special.
The selected mentors will have the training and materials to help them start
their new job. They will have ongoing support/supervisison from our office
staff and someone who arrange this program for the families.
For more information on Deaf Mentor program, please find the information
under www.dhhsd.org. Find the information on Deaf Mentor program somewhere
in this web site. Feel free to download the handout, A Plan for
Mentorship of Minnesota Families with Deaf Children, on this program from
the web site. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
Thank you very much for your help! Have a great day!
