Title: Lead Custodian
Classification: Non‐Exempt
Reports to: Business Office Manager and Building Principal
Work year: 1.0 FTE; 12 months; days TBD
Salary: $15‐$18/hr; based on experience; benefits included
Primary Function: Independently performs and/or supervises routine cleaning, maintenance and operations of building and grounds under the direct supervision of assigned administrator.

Under the direct supervision of designated administrator/supervisor, Lead Custodian will:
- Establishes daily and weekly schedules for Lead and Assistant Custodian; maintains records of work activity.
- Confers with school administration or supervisor regarding custodial and maintenance needs of the school.
- Inspects building and grounds and report needed repairs to direct supervisor; arranges for service to be conducted.
- Assists in ordering and maintaining custodial materials and supplies; receives, inventories, stores and maintains necessary custodial, grounds and general supplies, materials and equipment.
- Oversees rooms, furniture and equipment arrangements for school activities and special events. May assign other custodial staff to assist.
- Coordinates and participates in cleaning of the school.
- Maintains grounds including watering, weeding, snow removal on sidewalks, steps and playground, property clean‐up, weed abatement.
- As requested, clean and maintain school vans.
- Performs other duties as required to accomplish the functions of the position.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
- Knowledge of maintaining a building in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
- Ability to practice safe cleaning methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic record‐keeping, inventory and scheduling skills.
- Knowledge related to use of small power tools.
- Ability to work independently, problem‐solve and troubleshoot.
- Ability to walk, bend, twist, kneel, climb and stoop repeatedly.
- Ability to lift light to medium weight materials and equipment up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis, over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to operate and maneuver demanding equipment such as floor polishers, floor washer, carpet cleaners, large vacuums.
- Ability to perform work inside and outside of the facility during all seasons. Selection criteria to qualify for this position:
- High School education or GED with some applicable work‐related experience; some supervisory experience is preferred
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude required to perform the position as expected
- BCA Background Check
- Clean driving record with valid MN driver’s license
- Strong communication skills in written English and American Sign Language preferred
Please Note: This 1.0 FTE is a “split shift” position. MDS‐MNSA is looking for a qualified individual to work early mornings (5:30‐8:30 a.m.) and again afternoons/evenings (2:30 ‐8:00 p.m.) due to the needs at the school.
